The Sandgrounder on Lord Street has been transformed into a Potting Shed Bar & Gardens on the ground floor, FIREPIT Smokehouse & Sports Bar on the first floor and a huge roof garden with retractable roof and function room.

Concept bar specialists Ormsborough Ltd, which already owns and operates five Potting Sheds and two FIREPITs in Yorkshire, took over the building last autumn.

Since then it has spent a total of £2.6million creating its first site housing the two bars under one roof.

With a VIP launch event on Wednesday June 13, the unique combination is set to become Southport’s newest destination venue, creating more than 50 jobs.

£1.4million has been invested in an extensive refurbishment, with distinctive designs for each bar.

Potting Shed Bar & Gardens, which has a quirky outdoors-to-indoors garden theme, specialises in craft beers, cocktails and artisan spirits, and freshly homemade food.

FIREPIT has Americana décor incorporating classic car parts, neon signage and a custom-built Airstream-style aluminium caravan for private booth dining. Its menu focuses on signature US-style dishes from an in-house smoker and wood-burning grill, served alongside an extensive selection of house cocktails, beers and spirits. Sports are shown throughout the FIREPIT and the main screen is a huge 4 x 2 metre LED wall.

Operations manager Jade Renner says the two will bring something new and exciting to Southport’s busy bar scene.

“We put a lot of thought and time into devising menus and décor for both and, after months of working on the site, we’re really looking forward to being able to show off the results.

“The two concepts have been highly successful in other areas so we’re confident they’re going to be very well received here and customers get two options in one plus the roof terrace which will be amazing in summer.”

Isaac Mayne, head of marketing and promotions, added: “Potting Shed and FIREPIT offer something very different in looks and atmosphere, but we believe they’ll work really well together. This is something new for us as a company so we’re pleased to be bringing it to Southport first and the roof terrace will add al fresco drinking and dining in the most spectacular rooftop location.”
