If you’re looking for cocktails with a Japanese twist, don’t miss Izakaya’s great selection.
The small but perfectly formed Castle Street bar and eatery has an excellent cocktail menu, which works well with its hand rolled sushi and excellent Gyoza.
The Sake Spice (£7) is a great place to start, with its blend of ginger syrup, maraschino, dry orange curaçao and cardamom, topped with an edible flower.
Escubac is a rare treat on menus, and Hedgerow Fix (£7.50) uses it well.
A great small batch liqueur, it’s made in pot stills in France with 14 botanicals, including caraway, cardamom and nutmeg.
Izakaya then blend it with lime, orange blossom tea, apple juice and elderflower wine to make a refreshing cocktail that works well as a alternative to gin and tonic.
For a final pick me up, their Espresso Martini (£7.50) is well worth a try too. A simple take on a rocket fuel cocktail, it combines vodka, coffee liqueur, sugar and espresso.
